Editorial and corrections policy
People read these pages when deciding where to keep their savings or borrow money, and a wrong figure next to an institution’s name is unfair to that institution as well as to the reader. So every figure comes from a filing, and the quarter is shown with it.
Who is responsible
Radif Partners, reachable at contact@creditunionscompared.com.
What we read
- the NCUA’s quarterly Call Report files and its data summary;
- the NCUA’s and MyCreditUnion.gov’s pages on share insurance, membership and capital;
- 12 CFR Part 702 for the capital categories, and the FDIC’s pages for the comparison with banks;
- a credit union’s own membership page, only for what it says about who may join.
Sources we refuse
Ranking sites, blogs, forums and news stories never supply a figure or a membership rule here, even when they are right. If a credit union’s page cannot be opened or refuses our reader, we do not look for a copy elsewhere: the page says to confirm with the credit union.
Our own tests
The five data tests and the medians by size are ours, and every page where they appear says so. They are not a rating, the NCUA has not reviewed them, and no supervisory rating appears in the file we read. The way each one is worked out is on the method page.
No payment, no accounts
No credit union pays to appear, to rise in a table or to be left out. We sell no account, take no applications and pass no details on to anyone. Addresses of membership pages appear as plain text, so that you can check what we read.
Update cycle
Updates are made by hand when the NCUA publishes a new quarter, and every table shows the quarter it comes from. There is no automatic schedule, so a page can be behind the agency’s site for some time.
Corrections
- We open the file or the page again.
- We correct the data or the wording, and add a test when a calculation is involved.
- The site rebuilds and the date changes.
Independence
No agency, credit union, bank or trade group pays for or reviews what is published here. Version of .
