NCUA Call Report, June 30, 2026. Delinquency: loans two or more months late, as a share of loans. Checks: our own five data checks, not an NCUA rating; membership rules are not in this file, so confirm them with the credit union. Everything you enter stays in this browser: nothing is sent or stored.

To find a credit union near you, start with your state, because that is how the federal file is organized and how the tool above reads it: each state lists every credit union with its main office there, its city and its branch count. A good part of what you will find on the street may come from elsewhere: in the file for June 30, 2026, Florida has 146 offices of credit unions based in other states, and District of Columbia is where such offices weigh most, at 50% of all offices. Our file gives the number of offices per state for those institutions, and each state page names the main ones. Note that a nearby branch does not mean you can join, and a distant credit union may accept you. So use geography for the shortlist, then check each field of membership on the credit union’s own page.

Where a credit union based elsewhere can be the nearest one

State tables list a credit union where its main office is. Its branches may be in other states, sometimes in great numbers. The ten states below have the most offices run by credit unions based elsewhere. On each state’s page, a table names the outside credit unions with the most offices there.

A way through the list

  1. Pick the state where you live or work. Those near a state line should run both: a credit union across the line may serve your area.
  2. Search your city, then drop the search. The city match finds local head offices. Without it, the sort by branches shows who has the widest network.
  3. Look past the names. A name does not state the field: American Airlines Federal Credit Union says it is open to anyone in air transportation.
  4. Open the page of two or three. The membership page says whether you qualify. It usually lists counties, employers or associations. For a short list, we have read those rules for you.
  5. Check insurance and numbers. The table shows the checks. The health check shows each figure.

What this file cannot do

We do not hold street-level branch lists on this site, nor a distance search, which is why there is no map. The filing does give branch addresses, but this site keeps the list by state and shows the counts. The official route to a street address is the NCUA’s Credit Union Locator, named on the agency’s share insurance page. That locator timed out when we tried it on November 2, 2026, so we cannot describe how it behaves today. A credit union’s own branch page is the other reliable source.

All the state pages

Every state and the District has its own page: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

Questions people ask

Can I join a credit union in another state?

Sometimes. On the pages we read, Global Federal Credit Union lists Alaska, Washington and counties in three other states, and First Tech lists employees of partner companies. Many credit unions run branches in several states, as our state pages show. The credit union’s own membership page is the place to confirm it.

How do I find a credit union in my city?

Open the tool above, pick the state and type your city in the search box. The city shown is that of the main office, so a credit union with a branch in your town but its main office elsewhere will not match by city. Use the branch sort and the list of outside credit unions on the state page to find those.

Does this tool use my location?

No. It asks for no location, sets no location cookie, and does not send what you type. It loads the state’s file from this site and filters it in your browser. That also means it cannot sort by distance. For a street-level search, the NCUA’s Credit Union Locator is the official tool, although it did not open when we last tried.
